Energy healing has been practiced for centuries, yet many people struggle to understand how it works beyond the spiritual perspective. While modern medicine primarily focuses on genetics and biochemistry, an emerging body of research suggests that energetic frequencies play a crucial role in gene expression, cellular function, and overall health—in ways we are only beginning to grasp.
At the core of our current understanding is epigenetics, the study of how environmental and internal factors influence which genes are turned on or off. But what if one of the most powerful regulators of gene expression isn’t just nutrition or lifestyle, but our own vibrational state? How Our Genes Are Regulated
Inside every cell of our body, we carry the same genome—our complete set of DNA, which serves as a blueprint for life. This blueprint contains all the instructions needed to build and maintain our body. However, not every part of this blueprint is active at the same time. Different types of cells, such as brain cells (neurons) and immune cells, use specific sections of DNA to carry out their unique functions. Even though every cell contains the same genetic material, what makes a neuron different from a skin cell or a muscle cell is which genes are turned on or off.
Genes act as instructions for making proteins, which are the building blocks of the body. These proteins control essential processes like cell growth, stress responses, and immune function. But how does the body decide which genes to activate and which to keep silent?
This is where epigenetics comes in. The word epigenetics comes from Greek origins and can be broken down into two parts: Epi, meaning "above," "over," or "on top of" and genetics, derived from "genesis", meaning "origin" or "creation". So, epigenetics literally means “above genetics” or “on top of genes.” This reflects the concept of epigenetics as the study of mechanisms that regulate gene expression without altering the underlying DNA sequence. Epigenetics is like a biological switchboard, determining which genes are switched on, how strongly they are activated, and when they are turned off. This process allows our cells to adapt to different conditions, respond to environmental influences, and even store memories of past experiences at a molecular level.
A helpful way to visualise this is by imagining DNA as a garden full of seeds, where each seed represents a gene. Some seeds sprout into healthy, thriving plants, while others remain dormant in the soil. The process of transcription, which converts genes into proteins, is like growing selected plants to create a well-functioning garden. Epigenetics here can be thought of as the gardener—deciding which seeds get water and sunlight (allowing them to grow and be expressed) and which remain covered in shade (silencing certain genes).
This means that while our DNA provides the instructions, epigenetics determines how those instructions are used, shaping everything from our physical health to how we respond to stress, diet, and even emotional experiences.
The Missing Link in Modern Medicine
Scientists widely agree that epigenetic changes—which influence how our genes behave—play a major role in health and disease. These changes can turn genes on or off, affecting everything from immune function to the way our cells repair themselves. However, what science hasn’t fully explained is what actually triggers these changes in the first place.
If two people are exposed to similar environments, eat the same diet, and live similar lifestyles, why does one develop a disease while the other remains healthy? Traditional medicine often explains this as random chance or purely genetic inheritance, but this explanation leaves out something deeper.
Could it be that our thoughts, emotions, and energetic states are actually influencing the way our genes are expressed?
This idea brings us to the mind-body connection and energy healing, which suggest that our inner world—our stress levels, beliefs, and emotional patterns—may be playing a far greater role in our physical health than we once thought.
The Mind-Body Connection and Energy Frequencies
As both a scientist and energy healer, I believe that our thoughts and emotions have a direct impact on our physical health. When we suppress emotions, experience ongoing stress, or hold onto negative thought patterns, it creates disruptions in the body's energy field that can eventually affect our well-being.
A simple example of this is how our body reacts to stress. Even if we’re just thinking about something stressful—like an upcoming deadline or an argument—our brain sends signals that release cortisol and adrenaline. These hormones activate the fight-or-flight response, increasing heart rate and blood pressure. Over time, chronic stress can wear down the body, contributing to issues like inflammation and a weakened immune system.
On the other hand, when we experience joy, love, or gratitude, our body releases endorphins and oxytocin—sometimes called the "feel-good" hormones. These chemicals help lower stress levels, reduce blood pressure, and support overall health. This shows how our emotions and thoughts directly affect the genes that regulate essential processes in our body.
But the impact of emotions goes beyond just biochemistry—they also carry specific energetic frequencies:
Love and joy are high-frequency states, meaning they vibrate at a faster rate and promote harmony in the body.
Fear and stress are low-frequency states, with slower, denser vibrations that can contribute to stagnation and imbalance.
Other emotions fall somewhere in between, influencing our energy and physical state accordingly.

This idea has been demonstrated through various vibrational experiments, showing how frequencies influence physical matter. One well-known example is the Chladni plate experiment, where salt or sand is placed on a metal plate that is vibrated at different frequencies. As the plate vibrates, the grains arrange themselves into intricate, symmetrical geometric patterns. These patterns, often associated with sacred geometry, are believed to reflect the natural mathematical structures that form the foundation of all life at a microscopic and even subatomic level. The higher the frequency, the more complex and refined the pattern becomes.

Similarly, water has been shown to be highly responsive to energy, thoughts, and sound. The water crystal experiments conducted by Japanese scientist Dr. Masaru Emoto demonstrated how water molecules change their structure when exposed to different words, intentions, and emotions. Emoto’s research involved freezing water samples that had been exposed to positive or negative words, music, or even thoughts. Under a microscope, the water crystals exposed to loving and positive words formed beautiful, symmetrical patterns, while those exposed to harsh or negative words became disordered and fragmented. Although his work has been debated in the scientific community, many people believe it provides powerful evidence that our thoughts and emotions have a tangible effect on the world around us.
Other experiments have extended these findings to the plant kingdom. Studies have shown that plants and even rice submerged in water respond to different spoken words and energies. In these experiments, rice stored in containers with labels such as "love" and "gratitude" tended to decompose more slowly, while rice exposed to words like "hate" or "anger" decayed much faster. Similarly, plants that were spoken to with love and encouragement often grew more robustly compared to those that were ignored or spoken to negatively.
These findings suggest that words, emotions, and intentions carry vibrational frequencies that can influence the structure and health of living things. Given that the human body is composed of about 70% water, this means that our own thoughts and emotions could be constantly shaping our physical and energetic states in ways we might not fully realise.

How This Relates to Gene Expression and Disease
Just as vibrational experiments show that low frequencies create simple, disorganised patterns while higher frequencies form intricate, symmetrical structures, the same principle applies to our cells and DNA.
When our cellular vibration is low—due to stress, suppressed emotions, or unhealthy environments—it disrupts epigenetic regulation, which controls how our genes are expressed. This can lead to imbalances in gene activity, contributing to cellular dysfunction, disease, and aging. On the other hand, when we raise our cellular vibration, we promote proper gene expression, supporting the body's natural ability to heal.
One of the key epigenetic mechanisms influenced by vibrational energy is DNA methylation—a process where small chemical groups called methyl groups attach to DNA to turn genes on or off. Proper DNA methylation is essential for regulating cell function, but imbalanced, or a widespread loss of methylation has been linked to aging, cancer, autoimmune diseases, and neurodegenerative conditions. If epigenetics is a gardener, you can think of the methyl group as a watering can—either nourishing the seeds to grow or leaving them dry and dormant.
To understand this more clearly, think of salt particles on a vibrating plate—when exposed to a high-frequency sound, the salt organises into beautiful, symmetrical patterns. Similarly, when our cells vibrate at a high frequency, the molecules within them arrange more efficiently, creating an organised cellular environment. This increased structural complexity allows for greater molecular interaction with DNA, facilitating proper DNA methylation. As a result, genes are regulated more precisely, ensuring balanced gene expression and optimal cellular function.
However, when cellular vibration is low, the patterns become simpler and less organised. This lack of structure affects molecular interactions, reducing the points of contact between regulatory molecules and DNA. As a result, the essential process of methyl group attachment is impaired, leading to improper gene regulation. Without proper methylation, genes may be activated or silenced incorrectly, increasing the risk of disease, dysfunction, and premature aging.

This insight bridges science and energy healing, highlighting how vibrational frequencies directly influence our health—not just on a spiritual level, but also on a biological and genetic level. By raising our vibration through positive emotions, meditation, sound healing, and energy work, we can support healthy gene expression and cellular function, laying the foundation for optimal well-being.
